Dolores Edkins

Dolores Rose Edkins August 18, 1982- - August 9, 2025 Dolores was born at St. Vincent"s Hospital and raised in Annadale. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Grammar School, where she was a good student. She was also a Girl Scout and played soccer, earning a soccer scholarship for high school. At St. Joseph by the Sea High School, Dolores excelled academically in the honors program and athletically as a member of the track team. As a freshman, she broke the Cross Country record at Clove Lakes Park, as well as other records in Cross Country and the 4x800 relay. Her running talent earned her a scholarship to Cabrini College, where she attained her bachelor's degree. Dolores had a variety of interests. She once raised a lop eared rabbit that won a ribbon at the Richmond County Fair, and she worked at Wendy's. During college summers, she served as a New York City Parks Enforcement Police Officer at the Staten Island beaches. She began her career with the Department of Buildings as a college aide in Staten Island, continuing there for 10 years. Dolores was known for her sharp wit and intelligent remarks-insights that could be both profound and funny. She dreamed of getting married and having a family, but that was not in God's plan for her. She had been engaged at one time. Dolores is survived by her loving parents, MaryAnn (Armstrong) and Charles Edkins Sr.; her uncles, James Armstrong, James Edkins and Edward W. Armstrong, Esq.; and many cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved brother and sister, Mariana and Charles Jr. Mariana was tragically killed by a drunk driver on January 10, 2006, and Charles Jr. was lost to fentanyl on November 5, 2021. Dolores never recovered from the heartbreak of losing them, and we believe she died of a broken heart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
