Eleanor ''Ellie'' Sweeney

In loving memory of Eleanor ''Ellie'' Sweeney (nee Weber), a cherished wife, devoted mother, affectionate grandmother, and virtually doting great-grandmother, who peacefully departed from this world on January 27, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of her family at her Eltingville, Staten Island home. Born on March 7, 1933, to Carl and Rufina Weber, Ellie's journey began driven with purpose. On November 8, 1953, she united her life with Gerald Sweeney, and together they had a family of six children. By 1974, their adventurous spirits led them to Staten Island, where Gerald opened the first McDonald's. They brought aboard numerous young individuals embarking on their professional journeys, fostering connections that blossomed into friendships and a newfound sense of camaraderie. Ellie's heart touched many, leaving a legacy of love that extended beyond her immediate family. Her unwavering faith illuminated her path, and her generosity became a beacon for friends and neighbors alike. In her younger years, Ellie and Jerry shared the dance floor, creating memories that echoed through the years. Even as time passed, they continued to dance, embracing the rhythm of life together. Ellie's tech-savvy spirit found joy in the digital world, navigating her iPhone with ease, delighting in Facebook and Instagram, frequently FaceTiming family members, and creating a virtual album of cherished moments. Among the many things she loved, Ellie was an avid and knowledgeable Yankee fan, and also loved the ritual of getting her hair done. Her hair dressers loved her and will miss her. She is predeceased by her son Pat, who passed away in 2012. Ellie is survived by her devoted husband Gerald, children James, Steve, Terry, Michael, and Kathy, along with 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her absence will be deeply felt every day, but her spirit lives on in the countless hearts she touched. May we celebrate Ellie's life, a radiant journey that continues to inspire us with love, laughter, and the enduring warmth of family. A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
