Frank T. Whalen

Francis Thomas Whalen, aged 71, passed away at home peacefully on March 13, 2026, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his three daughters, Kristen (husband, Bobby, and grandsons, Connor and Carter), Colleen, Kerri (husband, Matthew, and granddaughter, Charlotte). Francis was born to the late Francis Sr. and Florence Whalen in Brooklyn NY. He attended St. Jerome's grammar school and Power Memorial High School. Francis worked for Chase Bank before entering the NYC Police Academy in 1982. Francis and Patricia married that same year. He was an officer who worked many facets of the department and became a Sargent in 1989. His long career in the police department spanned twenty-two years, retiring in 2004. Francis T. Whalen had many names, aka, Frank, Fran, Husband, Dad, Pop-pop, Favorite brother-in-law, Uncle, Friend. As Frank, he was a man of compassion as was evident when he was delivering Meals on Wheels to those unable to make their own. Although there was a time schedule, Frank would be sure to give conversation to those elderly people who just needed someone to listen. Frank was always there to help or lend an hand to anyone in need, because that's who he was. As Fran, he was a loving husband to Patricia for forty-three years. They shared many good years together raising their three successful, beautiful daughters. As Dad, even though his three daughters are all grown up, and successful women, he would do whatever or be wherever they needed him to be because he always believed that somehow they still needed him to take care of them. Daddy's little girls. As Pop-pop, he was so proud when his first grandson, Connor was born. A beginning to the growing family which grew again five years later when grandson, Carter was born, aka, Dennis the Menace. Life continued and three years later after two grandsons, Pop-pop was blessed again with a beautiful little granddaughter, Charlotte (lovingly called Charli). As Favorite brother-in-law, he was dearly loved by Lilias, Patricia's sister who he referred to as favorite sister-in-law or jokingly referred to as the sister wife. Also loved dearly by his in laws, Billy and Pat Barry. As Uncle, Francis had four nieces. Brittani, Ashley, Erin, and Keriann. So, with three daughters and four nieces, what Uncle could ask for more? It was Love times seven. And, it was given back ten fold by Uncle Frank. As Friend, what can you say except that Francis was truly blessed with friendships. From childhood to adulthood, to know Frank, was to love him. Some friends went on to become fellow police officers, while others he met along his path became lifetime brothers. There are so many to name, we wouldn't want to forget any one name. You all know who you are. Our Frank Whalen will surely be missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM on Thursday at St Thomas the Apostle Church located at 50 Maguire Avenue Staten Island, New York 10309. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
