Frank Turano ''The Duke''

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frank ''The Duke'' Turano, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on June 26, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 17, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, Frank was the cherished son of the late Frank and Carmela ''Millie'' Turano. His journey through life was marked by a steadfast dedication to family, an unwavering sense of humor, and a passion for sports that inspired all who knew him. Frank's early years in the vibrant streets of Brooklyn were filled with the warmth of family and the dreams of a young athlete. He graduated from New Utrecht High School, where he distinguished himself on the football field as a varsity player. This passion for sports would follow him throughout his life, whether he was cheering on his cherished New York Yankees and Giants or rallying for his favorite college football teams Notre Dame and Penn State. After high school, Frank bravely served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His time in the service instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and resilience, qualities he carried into his professional and personal life. Upon returning home, Frank embarked on a career in the airline industry, then returned to his high school alma mater for his last job before retirement. At New Utrecht High School, he dedicated himself to supporting students, athletes, and faculty alike, a testament to his enduring commitment to the New Utrecht community. Frank's heart was always devoted to his family. For over 60 years, he shared a beautiful and enduring marriage with his beloved wife, Lorraine. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their two daughters, Kerri and Kim. As a father and grandfather, Frank was unparalleled, imparting wisdom, instilling values, and sharing countless moments of joy with his daughters and granddaughters, Amanda, Emily, and Theresa. His sister Francine, brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Barbara, and his sons-in-law Charlie and Joe, all held a special place in his heart. Beyond his familial roles, Frank was an avid sports enthusiast and a committed runner, completing nine marathons with determination and grace. His love for the beach was well-known; he found joy in the simple pleasures of running along the shore, savoring a cigar, and scanning the horizon for military planes and ships with his trusty binoculars. His presence was one of infectious laughter and warmth, always quick with a joke and a smile, ensuring those around him felt the light and joy he so abundantly possessed. Frank will be celebrated on June 28, 2026, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10312. A Funeral Mass will take place on June 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Child, located at 4747 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10312. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
