George Mannina

George Mannina, 75 passed away peacefully Saturday February 11, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born in 1947 in Brooklyn and is the son of the late Sebastian and Grace (nee Guadagnino) Mannina. He grew up in South Ozone Park, Queens. He then moved to Staten Island in 1965 so that his father could be closer to lower Manhattan where he worked as a jeweler. He met his wife Concetta (nee Alongi) when they were only 19 & 20 years old while attending a mutual friend's wedding. They married in April 1971 and briefly settled in Flushing Queens before moving back to Staten Island to buy a home and start their family. George was a devoted and loving father to Andrea and Renee. Beloved father-in-law to Tommy Volpe, husband of Andrea. His most cherished and honored title was Grandfather to grandsons Thomas George and James Patrick who were the center of his world. George was a hard worker, though he attended college briefly he found his hard work and dedication taught him all he needed to know to grow as a leader and successful businessman. He would in time come to own many different businesses including a ship chandler company and a liquor store in the heart of Tottenville called Roselli's. His greatest accomplishment came from collaborating with his friends and business partners to open Duty-Free stores, including one at the airport in Cambodia. From this business venture he was privileged to meet and spend time with the President and Princess of Cambodia while touring the country and donating water pumps to help the country when it found its people in crisis due to flooding. George loved spending time with his family and friends above all else. He made it a point to keep in touch with his cousins who over the years were spread apart as they started and raised their families. George was not one to play sports, his hobbies were managing his investment portfolio, providing investment advice to others and cars. He was known to know the make, model and year of a car just by looking at it. He loved the classic cars from his childhood. George was also a member of the Elks Staten Island Branch No. 841. He was an Inner Guard from 2007-2008 and a Loyal Knight from 2008-2009. He also served as a member of the board of the homeowner's association for several years for the Tides at Charleston where he and Connie have lived since 2007. George was a story teller and loved to reflect on the memories of his childhood and the moments he spent with family and friends. George was an intelligent, dedicated, and hard-working soul. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Private cremation to follow. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
