Jane R. Pavia

Jane R. Pavia age 80 passed on Monday, December 4, 2023. Jane was born to Mary and Harry Endrich in Birzebbuga, Malta, she moved to New York with her parents along with her two sisters Mary and Carmen when she was just 6 years old. She often told the story of her reaction to seeing snow for the first time and being outside without the appropriate attire and her mother yelling at her. She grew up in a loving home, she would often reminisce about the family vacations to Lake George and visits back to Malta to see family. She was proud when she became an American Citizen and was able to start voting. Jane was blessed with 5 children. She raised her children by herself and worked hard to ensure they had everything they needed. Jane taught them the value of kindness, respect and hard work most importantly she showed them love and the importance of family unity. She later met and married the love of her life Thomas Pavia. Jane and Tom enjoyed going fishing, taking long drives and were always up for an adventure. They eventually settled down in the quiet town of Kent, Ct, although since their arrival it wasn’t quite so quiet. After almost 40 years of marriage sadly Tom passed away in 2021 and Jane moved back to Staten Island to be closer to her children. Jane was always with a smile, she loved to dance, laugh and joke around. Her happiness was infectious, if you were in her company you couldn’t help but laugh and smile with her. She was often the life of the party and everybody loved “Janey”. She loved when her sons Michael and John aka her Jonathan were dancing with her at parties and weddings. Jane also loved to watch classic movies especially westerns and musicals. She loved Hop A Long Cassidy, Debbie Reynolds and Fred Astaire; she often said that Fred reminded her of her dad. Jane was also known for her use of expletive language, you knew she loved you if she was cursing you and telling you to go “F. Yourself” with that contagious smile of hers on her face. There is no question that her favorite all time singer is the one and only Englebert Humperdinck. If you wanted to see a smile on her face all you had to do was put on his music and she would soon be singing and smiling. She was once given the wonderful gift of meeting Englebert in person after a concert from her daughter Danielle; she was as excited as a child on Christmas morning. She and Tom shared the song “After the Lovin” as their wedding song, and she would often play the song with happy remembrance of the life they shared. Jane loved to cook and bake with her daughter Tara; they shared many hours in the kitchen making the best meals and desserts together. Our only request was that she not make meatloaf, she made the worst meatloaf ever…. When Jane became a Nanna and Buz Nanna she took joy in cooking and baking with her grandchildren creating more than delicious food, but creating joyful memories. Jane would love to spend her time playing cards and games with her family. She adored her nieces Mary, Bernadette and nephews Vincent, William and Joseph and would look forward to spending time with them at family reunions. She also took pride in her beautiful nails, she and her daughter Jacqueline would often do each other’s nails, she always insisted on her nail color being coral. Her dream of returning to Malta, the country of her birth came to fruition in the summer of 2016, she was able to share with her husband the sites of her native country and proudly showed him off to her family thanks to their dear friend Orv. Jane was truly a woman that loved her family and we are grateful that she was the matriarch of ours, although we must say goodbye for now we take comfort that she is with her husband Tom, son Michael, mom Mary, dad Harry, sister Mary and her two brothers in law Sonny and Joseph. We are confident that they are going to have a wonderful heavenly holiday together this year. Jane is survived by her baby sister Carmen whom she loving called “The Brat “and loved with all her heart; she was her best friend. She will be missed by her 4 living children; Jacqueline, Danielle aka Missy, John, Tara and her son in laws Joseph and Eric. She was the best Nanna to her 16 grandchildren Antonia & Phil, Samantha aka Samola & Will, Edward & Emily, Crystal, Michael, Danielle, Joseph, Teresa & Ray, William, John-Michael, Tiffany and Christina. She shared a special bond with her 12 great-grandchildren that would affectionately call her Boo-Boo; Hailey, Jayden, Damien, Killian, Owen, Autumn aka Megan, Milani, Summer, Amaya, William, Francesca and Myles. They are all a testament of her life and the legacy of a loving kind woman that has made a difference in this world. Friends may visit with the family at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funeral at 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, NY on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
