In Loving Memory of Linda A. Graves November 15, 1953 - May 12, 2026 Staten Island, NY, lost one of its most cherished residents on May 12, 2026, when Linda A. Graves peacefully departed this world at home, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born to James and Elizabeth (Fennessey) Mooney on November 15, 1953, Linda was a beacon of love, humor, and unwavering faith in the community she called home all her life. Linda was the beloved wife of the late Bryan W. Graves, with whom she shared 38 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2009. Together, they raised a family that became the center of Linda's universe. She is survived by her four adoring children: Scott J. Walters, Bryan W. Graves, Brendan P. Graves, and Shannon E. Walters. Her legacy further extends to her seven treasured grandchildren: Brianna, Connor, and Alanna Walters, Keira Graves, Colin Graves, Brian and Liam Cahill ( her YaYa's), who brought immense joy to her life. Adored mother in law to Jessica Graves and Brian Cahill. Linda's sister and other half, Colleen A. Mooney, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, continue to cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, James and Elizabeth, her devoted husband Bryan, and her five siblings. Linda's life was a tapestry of service, humor, and community. She was a proud alumna of Port Richmond High School and served the city she loved as a matron for the NYC Department of Transportation on the Staten Island Ferry. Her journey began as a bartender, where she honed her innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Known affectionately as the ''Unofficial Mayor of Staten Island,'' Linda had a charisma that drew people to her, no matter where she went people knew her, even while exploring campgrounds in southern New Jersey . Her sense of humor was legendary, and her wit was as sharp as it was endearing. Whether sharing a joke or one of her signature sayings, like ''Thanks for showing up, take the rest of the day off with pay,'' or when asked in passing how she was doing her staple reply would be ''Hanging in there like a loose tooth. ''. Linda had a unique gift for lifting spirits and bringing laughter to everyday life. She was the family's unofficial Uber driver, constantly on the move, from putting her grandsons on the bus to chauffeuring her sister Colleen around town. Linda was deeply devoted to her faith, dedicating countless hours to her church community. She served as a reader at Saturday evening Masses, a church sexton, and a fill-in secretary whenever needed, as well as Official Money counter for the Masses and appointed accountant for the churches many accounts. Her commitment to her church was unwavering, and she performed her duties with grace and dedication. 6 am Bagels where a weekly staple at the church rectory with her fellow volunteers and friends, the coffee was already ready when they got there thanks to Linda. Her compassion extended beyond her family and faith. Linda was known for her generosity, always ready to assist those in need, often giving to those less fortunate across Staten Island. Her heart knew no bounds, and her kindness was a testament to her character. A celebration of Linda's life and legacy will be held on May 18, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Benedicta, located at 1265 Castleton Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302. Interment will follow in St Peters Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, and Sunday May 17th, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Graves leaves behind a world that is brighter for having known her and a community that will forever hold her close in heart. As we say goodbye to a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, we take solace in knowing that her laughter and love will echo in our hearts eternally.
